Kuraattorin tervehdys

Meän Periferian RAJAPINTA | GRÄNSYTA -näyttelyn kuraattorin tervehdys avajaisiin 15.8.2026

From the more than 50 works submitted, we selected those that we felt best reflected the idea of the exhibition: to present a broad and professional perspective on art at and about borders. We looked particularly at how the works relate to the northern border region, as well as to boundaries between different art forms and artistic expressions.

The selection involved many considerations, and we would also like to encourage the artists who were not selected this time to continue their artistic work. A jury selection is always limited and reflects the particular focus and context of a specific exhibition.

We were both particularly moved by The Lupin Effect. The work is very thoughtfully conceived as a whole, and the environment in which it was filmed adds a strong visual and acoustic dimension.

In terms of content, we saw the lupin as part of the discussion around “alien species”. In this work, what is foreign or unfamiliar can also appear beautiful and intriguing. Communication and interaction between all living things are important. The Lupin Effect invites the viewer to reflect, in a poetic and complex way, on how what is foreign can also enrich our culture and our understanding of borders.
